The Quark loudspeaker was created with a minimalist ethos.
There is only one driver.
There is no crossover or baffle step correction - only wire between amplifier and driver.
The driver consists of a long fiber paper cone, copper shorting ring, solid AL phase plug with an efficiency of 92db.
The cabinet follows Euclid's (325 - 265 B.C.) "extreme and mean"
proportion. This proportioned curve is a foundational element of the design - milled from
solid stock, baltic birch plywood.
These proportions are also known as "Divine", "Golden" or "Fibonacci" ratio.
"God Geometrizes continually", - Plato (427-347 B.C.)
Which Man recognizes but occasionally...
in the 5th century B.C. to create the Parthenon among other famous ancient Greek buildings.
A key element in this design utilities the reflective
properties of an ellipse. This determines the rear wave propagation within the cabinet which is probably the most overlooked element in speaker design. The shape itself creates an
advanced acoustic chamber with some unique qualities. Also employed, but
not shown, is an acoustic filter which has a patent pending. The sculpted surface gets the most attention but is a secondary element which diffuses reflections to a degree. These and other elements provide the impulse and frequency response above with no electronic correction or dampening.
Quarks making music.
How do they sound? As much as I prefer to let things speak for themselves it is perhaps artless to say nothing.
There is of course some sin of omission in the lower registers compared
to a 15 inch driver but the cabinet is particularly rigid and the BR
alignment is fully Bullock so the bass is tuneful and extends easily
beyond expectation. The presentation is full range and room pressurization is very good due to solid impulse response. They are easy on the ear due proper the high frequency integration and surprise new listeners who experience a large soundscape and musically fulfilling presentation. Underpinning these attributes is a unique coherence and natural timbre.
